I'm usually quite ignorant when it comes to things like politics, the economy and related serious stuff. This is because I chose to be ignorant. Why bother? What difference does it make who's the PM and which party's leading the government? Does it make the civilians' lives better? Does it make the roads' conditions better? Does it make the quality of life and standard of living better?
NO! It doesn't!!
I'm not being negative here. Really, give a good look around you. Look at the amount of crimes committed a day. Look at the conditions of our roads and the city. Does it even come close to our closest neighbour, Singapore? Not to say I'm dissing my own country and worshipping others. I'm just stating the facts.
When was the last time you went to a government run office, say, the post office? Do you feel very very relunctant to even go there? Do you feel disheartened the moment you step into the place? I do. Coz the people who work there don't give a damn about their jobs and the expectations of their customers. They go to work at 8am, take a tea-break from 10am-10.30am, then go off for lunch from 12pm-2.30pm, then another tea break from 3.30pm-4pm and at 5pm, bye bye, ciao, they're off from work. How on earth does work get done with that kinda attitude? I hate going into any government office/dept and will only go when forced to e.g. gotta re-new my license, my ID, passport, etc. Hafta wake up early in the morning, wait in line for almost half a day [coz of the slowness and inefficiency of the people working there plus their many many breaks and don't-care attitude], then finally when it's my turn to speak to the person behind the counter, I gotta stand there for maybe another half an hour for that person to slowly process my documents, then sit down and wait for another few hours to get my re-newed ID/ passport/ license, etc. Wasting my entire day!! Grrr...
So with any new PM running the country, will the government offices/ depts be more efficient? Will the employees there start showing interest in their jobs and actually be productive? Will it cushion the effect of the recent sky high prices of fuel and subsequently other items?
Even to get a rebate for fuel, we gotta go to the post office to do it and during the week. Urgh... How to get things done? Take leave for a day to purposely get the rebate coz most likely I'd hafta wait in that place for an entire day for those slowpokes to process my rebate?
Sigh...
Wish I'm living in a country where the government actually use my hard-earned tax $ to good use, like hire productive and effective people for jobs, inprove the road and traffic conditions, etc instead of using it for people and things that make my life more difficult. Coz I really don't like the idea of my mere monthly $ being deducted so much to contribute to such inefficiencies. Hmmpphh...
So, whoever's the next PM and whichever's the next party to lead, will there be any significant 'positive' difference to me and other civilians?? Dunno... Hopefully there is, though chances are slim.
God bless us!!
