Yayasan Sunbeams Home

Yayasan Sunbeams Home is an orphanage founded by Pastor Alvin and his wife, Lucy. The home is home to orphans aged 3 - 23 years old. The home also provides child care services to single parents and tuition for the kids. There are help hired to manage and mantain the home and thanks to many generous donors, the home now has 2 double storey houses for the kids to stay in and has 2 other homes for orphans in 2 other locations plus an old folks' home in Sungai Buloh.

As part of our organization's corporate social responsibility, we decided to donate all the proceeds from our raffles ticket sales from our annual dinner last year to this home. The amount is not much, but thanks to the support from many colleagues, I managed to raise additional cash to buy the things needed urgently by the home ~ a fridge, a TV and a printer.

Organising this visit had not been easy, but I'm not complaining coz it's for a good cause and to be able to bring smiles to the children's faces and make their day brighter and happier is worth all the hard work and weeks of planning.

Yayasan Sunbeams Home... The kids are so adorable... I wonder how their parents can be so hard-hearted to abandon them!!
The food... All were prepared by my colleagues... Enough to feed an army.... I made the potato salad :) So proud!!
Waiting for Pastor Alvin to arrive to start the event... In the meantime, Jason the magician [he came all the way from Malacca upon hearing about this visit and didn't charge us anything for his performance!!] entertained the kids while we [wad else do we do??] cam-whored :P
Finally, Paster Alvin came, and our bosses, Mr. Chan and Mr. Chow presented him with the cheque and donations.... *clap clap* check out the amount of stuff we brought to donate...
Introducting my lil sister for the day, Pui Yi. She appeared suddenly behind YY and I and asked us to carry her. The moment she sat on my lap, she glued herself to me. When I wanted to stand up, she'll hug me tightly, so I hadta carry her around with me. She such a cute and obedient lil child. Again, I wonder why her parents abandoned her! While she was eating her chicken, she kept asking for 'roti canai'. She speaks mostly in Mandarin and me being a banana, didn't really understand most of what she was saying. Another kid walked by and told me Pui Yi eats 'roti canai' everyday and she's used to it, that's why she kept asking for 'roti canai'. According to the kid, she don't get to eat such good food like KFC often. Kesian :'(
While the kids dug in the food, we snapped pics... Yea, we're all cam-whores :P
Time for the magic show. Jason was really entertaining. I wonder how he did all those tricks...
After being a babysitter to Pui Yi, I hadta become a kuli to help carry all the stuff into the house...
While I was carrying the donations, YY was carrying...
The games session began... The younger kids played musical chairs...
While the older kids played 'Fastest Wins'. How the game works is, the MC will name an item and the group who could get the item the fastest and present it to the MC will win... I was in-charge of guiding Group 3... When the MC shouted out "Give me a belt!!" I quickly tried to take off mine to help the kids, but sorry, I was too lambat, another group won that round :P
While I was busy helping out Group 3, check out Alice 'Gak Gak'... She was in-charge of Group 1, but ended up posing 'vogue-ly' only...
Dee Lin aka Ah Jie preparing the games prizes... The lucky lil boy who won the musical chair game got a BIG white toy lion...
Since there were so many kids playing the 'Fastest Wins' game, we gotta arrange the prizes out to give it out to the kids...
Everyone was busy carrying the prizes out from the house but Alice 'Gak Gak' was still at her 'vogue' posing... YY decided to join her... Hahahahahahahaa... The last time Alice attempted her 'vogue' [pronounced: 'VO-GIUUUU' when it comes to describing Alice's poses], I nearly rolled down the street from laughing too hard... She so funny!! She's a natural...
My group won 3rd place... Ok la, better than last...
Giving Pastor Alvin the 'real' cheque... Don't wanna be responsible for it any longer... I have a tendency to suddenly lose it... Can't afford to pay back the $$ if I do... So better pass the cheque to Pastor Alvin awal-awal... Phew!!
The little girls commented I have nice nails. I asked Alice [she had a french manicure the day before] to show off hers. The little girls crowded around us and stared at her fingers... Silence for few seconds then one of them looked up and said "Nothing also." Okaaaay, maybe little girls dunno wad's french manicure... They'll eventually find out when they grow older...
Taking group pics and more pics before we leave...
Our ride back to the office. I specially arranged for the bus to pick us up from the office coz surely many people will get lost trying to find the place [*ahem* Alice, *cough* Matthias]. Also, to prevent parking prob. Too many cars will jam up the residential area...
It was a really hot and tiring day. But it's all worth it coz it's for a very good cause :)

Went back home, straightaway showered then pengsan-ed on my bed...
