The 80th Annual Academy Awards Red Carpet Gallery

I missed the show!! Coz I hadta work. Why do they always air it live on a weekday morning??!! Grrrr...

This year's annual Academy Awards presentation was held at the Kodak Theatre again, on February 24 2008. The ceremony was hosted by Jon Stewart.

I used to catch the Oscars each year when I was a student. It's only when I started working that I hadta miss it. I love catching it live. Makes it so much more exciting. Watching the celebs walk down the red carpet looking their best is something I really really heart!! The glitz and glamour of the event... The fab dresses, great hairdos and flawless makeup... The gorgeous people... Wowee...

Since I didn't manage to watch the show, I went online to find out who wore what and after looking at a lot of pics taken that day [red seemed to be the 'IT' color for this year's Oscars], here's my personal reviews on who's 'HOT', who's just so so and who should have just stayed home, away from the cameras, to avoid traumatising people.

So, here goes...

The Hotties:-

The most fabulous person that night [in my opinion], is Katherine Heigl. Her 1 shoulder red Escada gown paired with diamond earrings and bracelets plus her sexy sexy makeup and blond curls just screams 'HOT'... Really too hot to handle... Her look is just purrfect!!
Penelope Cruz looked stunning in this Chanel haute couture gown. Although she's never been one of my fav actresses, I hafta say, her hair, makeup, accessories and clutch goes really well with her beautiful dress.
Another actress who looked really gorgeous that evening was hot mama, Jennifer Garner. She looked really sexy with her black mermaid style Oscar de la Renta gown accessoried with a 61 carat diamond necklace and diamond bracelets from Van Cleef & Arpels, all thanks to celebrity stylist, Rachel Zoe, who styled her for that evening.
Another winner in the best-dressed list was Heidi Klum. Anybody else who attempts to wear the dramatic red Galliano gown will look really weird. But it's an entirely different story when it's worn by supermodel Heidi, coz she looked a million bucks! She perfected her look that evening with a pair of pink & red earrings and a giant bun. Heidi wore this dress as a part of an awareness program between Coca Cola and The Heart Truth campaign to raise awareness about the heart disease in women. This fab dress will be given away in the Diet Coke Red Dress Sweepstakes.
The So-Sos:-

Anne Hathaway wore a 1 shoulder red Marchesa gown with cushion cut diamond earrings. I think she'll look better without the string of red flowers strewn across her chest.
Marion Cortillard... I dunno wad to say, actually... Her hair looked great and her dress looked great as well from far... But up close, you could see the fish scales on this white Jean Paul Gaultier creation, and it's just weird looking. Love her necklaces, btw. It's made of 170 carats of color diamonds from Chopard.
Nicole Kidman have always been my fav actress and I especially liked watching her work the red carpet in gorgoues outfits. She looked really beautiful in so many many dresses, mainly because of her height, her body and her complexion. But this year, she disappointed me a lil. Her black Balenciaga dress looked plain. And I don't think she should have worn this dress with the blinding diamond sautoir necklace [made of 7600+ diamonds, worth 1400 carats] designed by L'Wren Scott. Maybe she wanted to dress down a bit coz of her pregnancy. Dun wanna have too much attention...
Renee Zellweger shone in her silver Caroline Herrera gown, paired with gorgeous gorgeous bling bling heels and vintage jewelry from Cartier. But the same cannot be said about her hair. What's with her short, messy hairdo??
Cameron Diaz looked only so so in her pink Dior gown and casual hairdo. She could have done better. Her Bulgari diamond pendant earrings were not enough. I think she should have slipped on a bracelet to avoid looking so plain.

Cate Blanchett looked quite good for a mom-to-be. Not everyone can look like her in this blue Dries van Noten gown with a big belly...
Keri Russell was also only so so in her Nina Ricci gown and H. Stern diamond necklace...
Hillary Swank was plain in a black Versace gown and earrings by Chopard... Dunno... She just don't look that glam to me...
The Stay-At-Home, Please!!:-
Jennifer Hudson scored with her nicely cut bangs but what's with the white Roberto Cavalli gown that looked like it's gonna squeeze the life outta her boobs??!! Give them room to breath, gal!! They're practically bursting outta that dress...
Preggers Jessica Alba should have just stayed at home with Cash. She looked horrendous in his feathery plum Marchesa gown. All the Cartier jewelry couldn't save this horrid get-up. And why did she do her hair like some aunty-milk-maid? Let's hope she gets back in shape fast after giving birth so that she'll look like her normal hot self again and once again grace the best dressed list.
Amy Adams looked nowhere near the enchanted Disney princess Giselle in this emerald Proenza Schouler gown and gold Fred Leighton bag that's so flat it's obvious she couldn't put anything in it.
Last but not least, Tilda Swinton, parading around the red carpet in one of the most glamorous events in the world in a garbage bag lookalike pathetic excuse of a dress is not the way to becoming an A-lister in Hollywood. You've won an award for the best supporting actress. So start dressing like one. Next time, choose a less gawd-awful gown from Lanvin and get a new hairdresser!!
And, the special award for the WORST hairdo of the evening goes to Ms. Calista Flockhart for her dunno-wad-bird's-nest hairstyle!! Ta daa...
