CNY is just a few days away but the festive mood is lacking... I realised that the festive mood is lacking as years go by... Last time it used to be so 'in-your-face'. The roads will be decorated with CNY 'red' deco, CNY songs will be blaring from the radio, shops, malls and homes. Aunties will be making kuih kapit at their house compound, squatting over the fire to man the grill on the biscuits, lotsa lotsa mandarin oranges, daging salai, biscuits, cookies, beer and all sorts of drinks will be loaded in the houses. TV will be airing CNY related shows. That was last time.
Now it's so quiet. No one even bother to shop for red bright CNY clothes early anymore. There's no rush. Hmmm... Why? What happened to all the semangat CNY mood? I really dunno...
I find myself lacking the mood as well... I only bought 3 tops for CNY this year and I bought it on Friday. Just a week before CNY. My house is not a storage place for all the cookies, oranges, etc like it used to be. Really, it everyone not bothered about CNY celebrations anymore??
O well, as long as there's still ang paus coming my way, I don't really wanna lose sleep thinking about the lack of semangat this festive season :P Only 1 thing I like about CNY is the ang paus. I don't like the hot weather, I don't like the traditional dishes, I don't like the smell of fire crackers, I don't like the jam... I just like the ang paus :P
This year marks the 2nd year that we'll be celebrating CNY without Jebbrine here. She'll be spending it in Adelaide. I hope she enjoys her holidays over there. Don't worry Jebb, I will 'keep' ALL your ang paus for you... Kekekeke...
I will be spending the first 2 days of CNY at my aunt's. I am so looking forward to all the yummy food there: assam laksa, rojak, ikan bakar, chee cheong fun, chicken, etc. My aunt's town has the yummiest food in the country!! And Shu said she will be bringing back some 'rami' tiles back to keep us entertained so I think I'll enjoy myself there :) Hehe...
I'll be back on the 3rd day of CNY coz my colleagues and I agreed to 'buka kerja' on the 4th day of CNY [it's a Sunday btw] coz it's an auspicious date for us to do so [we're quite a superstitious group of young ladies :P]. Evonne sent out an email asking us to wear 'red'. So semangat!!
So, HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR, everyone. Enjoy your holiday, all the food and all the ang paus!!
